With its sophisticated design, the observation tower on Killesberg blends in perfectly with the park on the city limits of Stuttgart.
The concept of the Stuttgart based engineering firm sbp – schlaich bergermann partner specifies that the support structure of the tower consists only of a 40 m high mast, 48 prestressed PFEIFER open spiral strand cables with GALFAN coating and a thrust ring at a height of 33.5 m. The tower, which was opened in 2001, is equipped with two staircases, each with 174 steps. Attached to the support structure of the tower are four observation platforms at heights of 8, 16, 24 and 31 m, which can be reached via the two elegant staircases.
This minimalistic tower still attracts many visitors today, after more than 20 years, in good weather, who can enjoy the undisturbed view over Stuttgart and the surrounding hills.
